We Sing Pop! Song Contest 2021 Results

Selected winners of the We Sing Pop! Song contest 2021 will have an opportunity to perform at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on the dates to be announced. 

First Place Winner

Lauren Ho, 16, hails from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She began formal vocal lessons at the age of six and has completed her Level 8 Singing in the Australian Guild Music & Speech Examination. She has been competing in both local and international performing arts competitions. In 2018, Lauren was a gold and bronze medalist in the Broadway and Contemporary categories respectively at the World Championship of Performing Arts in California. In 2020, she was a multi-gold award winner at the Asia Pacific International Arts Festival Music & Talents Competition. At the recent Voice of Asia 2021 competition, she was a gold and silver award winner. Lauren has also actively participated in her school’s box office productions since 2015, with her latest role as Mary Poppins in an original production of Practically Perfect, A Poppins Adventure. Apart from singing, Lauren also takes up ballet (Grade 8, Royal Academy of Dance) and piano (Grade 8 theory and practical, Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music). She aspires to be a “Triple Threat” performer one day.

Second Place Winners

Aviela Chang is a 17 year old high school student in Southern California. She loves music, especially vocal performances. She began playing piano at the age of six and began singing when she was a baby. As part of the Southern California Children’s Choir, she performed on many occasions, including “Tis’ the Season” at Segerstrom Center of the Arts in Orange County, California. She attends private singing lessons with her teacher, MaiSui, and as part of MaiSui’s studio, she has performed in multiple locations, such as South Coast Plaza. Currently, Aviela is a member of her school’s top choir. She won second place in the American Protégé International Vocal Competition 2020 in the intermediate category. She also won two first places in the American Protégé Vocal Competition 2021 in the intermediate category.

Olivia McDonald is a freshman at Guyer High School. She has performed in many theater productions at Studio B theater in Highland Village, and she has been in the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas from 2016 to 2021. She has done more than 15 performances at the Meyerson Symphony Center with the Children’s Chorus, and was in Carmina Burana with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in 2018. She is currently doing voice lessons with Kara Hanson-Hajjafari and has previously done lessons with New Song School of the Arts, The Studio of Music, Meredith Tompkins Music Studio, and the Lone Star Academy.

Yanisa (Sandy) Boonyatool is 13 and comes from Bangkok, Thailand. Yanisa first started to realize that she has an interest in singing when she was 5 years old. Yanisa felt that singing is a part of her life now that she wanted to develop and practice her skills by learning various styles and types of singing such as R&B, jazz, soul and pop. We Sing Pop! Competition is a part of her path to the success.
